Major Accountabilities

Including but not limited to:

• Acts as a Business Partner in all activities relating to the contractual negotiations and company’s statutory obligations.
• Leads complex transactions involving cross-functional and global stakeholders and drafts contracts independently.
• Gives complex and contextual legal advice and guidance (incl. training of key internal clients in specified legal areas, e.g. Antitrust) with strong operational and business acumen by setting legal necessities in context with competing operational needs.  
• Identifies risks relating to business activities and potential solutions therefor; raises business’ awareness of legal issues and ensures early legal involvement to accelerate the business and protect company’s legal position by giving timely legal advice to facilitate management decision-making.
• Conducts robust risk assessments that substantiate recommendations, and advises and determines appropriate actions to support the management decision processes.
• Is able to make decisions independently within a broad framework.
• Provides expertise on local country law, including internal quarterly report of compliance with Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act, legal practice and industrial standard in Novartis global context.
• Has innovative mind and learning agility in evolving areas of new therapy, for which Novartis aims to be a Trusted Leader.
• Manages significant disputes and litigation and/or investigations.
• Leads projects within legal, proactively collaborate with internal stakeholders and provides legal support for commercial initiatives and activities.
• Collaborates and aligns with legal colleagues supporting other TAs and Research & Development and/or global legal for the benefit of internal clients.
• Manages relationships and monitor the work of outside counsel and legal experts.
• Guides, counsels and supports the work of Legal Counsels, paralegals and support staff.
• Provides expertise in one or more substantive areas (e.g. Transactions, Litigation, Investigations, HR, Antitrust and Regulatory).
• Works by focusing on Impact with Inspired, Curious, Unbossed and Integrity.

Work Experience

Japan qualified lawyer (Bengoshi); or qualified lawyer in other jurisdictions with working experience in reputational law firm/in-house counsel of global or multinational companies for around 10 years

Experience in pharmaceutical industry is preferred, along with robust understanding of industry regulatory environment
